IFIP is a non-governmental, non-profit umbrella organisation for national societies working in the field of information processing. It was established in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO as a result of the first World Computer Congress held in Paris in 1959. It is the leading multinational, apolitical organisation in Information & Communications Technologies and Sciences which represents IT Societies from 56 countries or regions, covering all 5 continents with a total membership of over half a million. There are 14 Technical Committee in IFIP. Among these, TC8 – Information Systems – is the technical committee that aims to promote and encourage interactions among professionals from practice and research and advancement of investigation of concepts, methods, techniques, tools, and issues related to information systems in organisations.
IFIP-TC8 PhD Summer School
IFIP-TC8 PhD Summer School in Hue provides a training course for PhD students and researchers working in the field of Information Systems. There will be morning lectures given by international professors followed by afternoon group work. The 3-day intensive course provides the opportunity for participants to interact with, learn and get some advice from these highly experienced professors. The participants can also meet and network with other researchers working in the same field. IFIP-TC8 PhD Summer School in Hue during 8-10 April 2015 focuses on “Information System Challenges for Web” with the following schedule:

  • Wednesday April: “Semantics and Interoperability” by Professor Erich Neuhold (University of Vienna)
  • Thursday 9 April: “Exploring Linked Statistical Data Using Linked Widgets” by Professor A Min Tjoa (Vienna University of Technology)
  • Friday 10 April: “Resilience for Information Systems” by Professor Gerald Quirchmayr (University of Vienna)
